Astrology and Interaction (1)

I distinctly remember parents of a young boy who was exhibiting vague patterns of behaviour. He was just into college.

‘This boy moves only with those who listen to him and praise him…’ It was the mother telling me about him.

‘Well…’,I said,’…that’s something all of us like to do. Why would we move with individuals who criticise us?’

‘I think he picks up this habit from his father…’ The father was there. He kind of just smiled and allowed her to speak as much as possible. I just gave half of a glance to him and returned my gaze to the one talking-his wife who was too anxious to modify their son’s behaviour.

‘This boy rejects anything which is superior to him or anything which he does not really know. If he doesn’t know it, he concludes that it need not be known.’

‘This is a phenomenon during certain years during which the mind is as yet hibernating inside a world of its own. His display of presumed knowledge can be directed towards his performance at the exams and the ratings he gets in the college.’

‘He jumps the gun’, she said and looked at her husband. The husband chose not to speak yet again.

‘ How many children do you have?’, I asked.

‘Two-this boy is our first child. He has a younger brother.’

‘How does he interact with him?’ ‘He preaches him and is quite sarcastic with him.’

‘Did you try discussing his problem with him?’, I asked her husband. He sighed. ‘Well. You may be aware, young boys hardly speak to their fathers these days.’

‘How does he interact when you are face to face?’

‘There is no occasion when we are face to face. He withdraws and chooses something silly. Gradually, he escapes and slips into his comfor zone.’

I weighed it. ‘How does he interact with you?’, I asked his mother.

‘He smiles, laughs and relates a funny story. Some times, he starts singing and pushes his younger brother towards me asking him to listen to me carefully!’                                                                                                           ~~~***~~~

Mercury (Budha) is the key to the mind. An individual’s degree of intelligence, attitude and capability to think and communicate are held by Mercury. But while dealing with Mercury, it is important to study the closest association (and) or aspect to Mercury more than the position of Mercury itself. This gives away the predominant mental interest and focus of the individual. The case referred to above was owing to Mercury being placed in a fixed sign (Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius). The individual generally holds on to irrational attitudes and is usually unwilling to change them. How does one fix the problem? In the instant horoscope, Mercury was in Aquarius. How ever, this gives away another feature-Aquarius is a masculine, positive sign. Apparaently, though the mind is given to irrational patterns of thinking, it can be curious and aggressive!  A fundamental Astrological principle is that an afflicted Mercury is always preferred to Mercury without associations and aspects for the simple reason that Mercury is a neutral planet. One needs a trigger, an ignition key for activating Mercury-like starting the engine of a bike! The next step I took in examining the case was to see whether there was some planet associating or aspecting Mercury. It turned out that Saturn was in Leo (another fixed sign) and having a direct aspect on Mercury. Fine! How does one translate this situation into a practical solution? I turned to the father of the boy. ‘Is he good at languages or Law related areas?’ He brightened. ‘yes…’, he said ‘…he reads a lot of books on mystery, fantasy, thrillers etc.’ ‘Biographies?’ ‘Yes. He tears apart several well known people for their faults’ ‘Ask a simple question’ ‘Like?’ ‘What if a translated version had done injustice and rendered a different version?’

It was after a month that the boy’s father turned up to thank me. ‘He has started learning French and is actually mastering it. There is a certain perceptible change in his attitude!’, he said…                                                 ~~~***~~~
